Management of Tendinopathy
A variety of management options for tendon injury or tendinopathy exist. These include: PRP injections, NSAIDS, corticosteroid injections, exercise-based physiotherapy or modalities, shock wave therapy, nitric oxide patches, and finally surgery.
No treatment has been shown to be 100% successful.
NSAIDS & corticosteroids only provide short term relief. Both can increase the risk of tendon rupture.
Usually initial management is physiotherapy whilst, second stage management options are PRP therapy, nitric oxide patches for subcutaneous patches or shock wave therapy. Surgery is uncommon with mixed results.
